Solar and energy

EV chargers, heat pumps and voltage optimisers

Solar panels and a battery are the start. Many homes then add an EV charger, a heat pump or a voltage optimiser, so more of the power they make is used at home. We fit all three, and we set them up to work with your solar system.

EV chargers

A home charger is faster and safer than a three-pin plug. Many chargers have a solar mode that charges the car from spare solar power, so less of it goes back to the grid.

What is included:

  • A check of your consumer unit, your supply and the charger location
  • The charger, cabling, protection devices and earthing
  • DNO notification where needed
  • Set-up of the charger app and any solar mode

Heat pumps

A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home. It runs on electricity, so solar panels and a battery can supply part of its power.

What is included:

  • A heat loss survey of the home
  • Advice on insulation first, if the house loses heat fast. See Loft insulation.
  • The heat pump, hot water cylinder, controls and pipework changes
  • Commissioning and a handover of the controls

Grants. JBV Homes is MCS certified, so we can apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant on your behalf if your home in England or Wales is eligible. The scheme rules change from time to time, so we check your eligibility during the survey.

Voltage optimisers

Mains voltage in UK homes is often higher than many appliances need. A voltage optimiser lowers it to a steady level. This can reduce the energy some appliances use and can reduce wear on them. Savings depend on the appliances in your home, so we explain what to expect before you order.

What is included:

  • A check of your incoming voltage
  • The optimiser, fitted next to your consumer unit
  • Testing after installation
